Mitchell School of Arts is an institution that is an incredibly valuable resource for the whole arts community across Australia. It runs in Bathurst twice a year and is organised by The Art Scene. With around 30 different workshops using oil, acrylic, watercolour, pastel, mixed media, printmaking and drawing in traditional or contemporary styles - there is something for everyone.

If you haven’t yet attended one of the week long schools then you are missing out.
Attending a workshop at Mitchell School of Arts is a unique experience that you have to attend at least once! Be a part of the Mitchell School of Arts family and enjoy:
Fantastic artists who teach you what they know Be inspired and learn by watching accomplished artists at work. Each art tutor at the Mitchell School of Arts School is a well known artist and many have been delivering lessons to art students for many years. They are keen to share art tips and techniques with you and are there to encourage you in your art practice whether you are just a beginner or an advanced artist.
Taking your art to another level There is nothing like being immersed for a whole week in your art practice. It's a necessary indulgence that means you can finally explore the ideas that have been waiting for you to have the time to try them out. This is the ideal environment to let loose.

A welcoming atmosphere away from home You are part of a family here, a family of artists – some beginners, some on the way and some very accomplished artists. Not only do you learn from the talented artists that teach you but you often learn just as much from the other artists that are part of your week long journey.
The Mitchell School of Arts is also a family away from home Paul Malouf – the organiser of the school makes sure that your every need is looked after. With a great art store transported to the campus twice a year, complete with art supplies, paints brushes, paper and canvas, books DVD’s and also frames with a custom framing team, your art supply needs are well catered for.

Like minded people Sometimes your family and friends just don’t understand you when you rave about ultramarine blue with just a hint of red violet and white. It is so good to be surrounded by others who understand! What better than being with like minded people who are all exploring their art work and on their own artistic journey.
Let someone else do the cooking for a week! The Charles Sturt University campus has a fantastic dining room facility which provides mouth watering morning and afternoon teas and a wide variety of choices for lunches and dinners.
I know because I live here. Winter is a special time in the town as the temperature plummets and the mists rise in the morning. The colour and contrasts in the landscape are fantastic and while you are there you should take a drive out to the Macquarie river in town or drive out a few kilometres to see the river nestled along the Bridle track.
Night Life There are some fabulous restaurants and pubs to try in town but the Mitchell School of Arts also puts on some great entertainment every night:
- Monday night – tutor’s exhibition
- Wednesday night – Red faces talent quest
- Thursday night – Demonstration by Zbukvic & Pekel with auction to support scholarship program
- Friday Night – student exhibition and dance the night away with DJ Chris Cassy.

The exhibition at the end of the week is a great way to see what others have accomplished in the week. It gives you an idea about which workshop you might like to try next because once you have been to one Mitchell School of Art you are sure to come along to another.
Get away! Have some fun! Meet new people and develop your art!
See you there!
