Centrehouse is a not-for-profit community art centre on the North Shore.
Centrehouse offers day and evening classes for both children and adults in art and crafts as well as a selection of weekend workshops.
The list of classes during the term include, watercolour, abstract painting, mixed media, painting and drawing, printmaking and resin jewellery, spanish french and mandarin, yoga, bellydancing and meditation.
Centrehouse also invites visiting artists to hold special workshops in basket making, bookbinding, calligraphy, jewellery, portraiture, landscape and more.
For the younger creatives, Centrehouse offer kids art classes after school and pottery workshops during the school holidays. Committed to nurturing and supporting arts and culture, Centrehouse manages the Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Art Awards. This Biannual Award is for emerging artists in painting, drawing and printmaking, with prizes worth over $7,000.
The Eve Vonwiller Youth Art Award is for primary and high school students with lots of art materials up for grabs. This exhibition is held annually and is a great showcase for the work going on in our schools and beyond.
Centrehouse will be managing a new gallery space for local and regional artists to exhibit their work. This space is located in the centre of town in Lane Cove and is due to open at the end of 2011. Artists are invited to exhibit and applications will be taken annually. It is a large contemporary space that can broken into smaller spaces for some exciting installations and shows.
For Kids.. check out their 9 week term program in art, craft and pottery classes which are run after school and their exciting school holiday workshops in tie dying, mask-making, poster-making, printing, collage and much more.
For Teenagers…check out their 9 week term program offers classes in contemporary art making and ceramics, while we offer street art, poster art and a range of craft classes during the school holidays.
For Adults and Seniors…the 9 week term program offers a range of art and craft courses in ceramics, watercolour painting, painting & drawing, mixed media, printmaking and abstract art; language classes including French, Spanish, Italian and Mandarin; and leisure classes in yoga and belly-dancing. Weekend workshops in calligraphy, knitting, crochet, pastels, book-binding, basket-weaving, felt-making and many more are a great way to learn something new and meet the locals.
For Artists…Centrehouse has two wonderful printing presses (one that was donated by the renowned local artist Elizabeth Rooney) that are set-up in their own studio space and are open to artists to hire. The pottery studio, complete with throwing wheels are also available for hire by individuals and kiln firing services are available to artists, although conditions apply.
Classes are small and personal, teachers are highly skilled practicing artists and craftspeople and the atmosphere is friendly and relaxed.
