In her role as teacher with the Tom Bass Sculpture Studio, Wendy Black brings experience, understanding and an element of fun when working with inexperienced and advanced sculpture students.
A senior teacher with the Tom Bass Sculpture Studio School since 2004, Wendy simultaneously teaches the Beginner and General workshop programs on Thursday morning and afternoons. The popularity of the structured Beginner program has seen many of Wendy’s students return to tackle interesting and challenging projects under her guidance.
The Beginner program introduces students to the process of creating from start to finish a sculpture within a 10-week term at the School. They are guided through the process of modelling, making a plaster waste mould, casting the piece in plaster as well as finishing and colouring, within the timeframe of the 10 weeks.
Enthusiasm for Wendy’s teaching has taken her to The Art Centre, Cootamundra where she ran a short-intensive workshop in 2008. She will return in May and July 2009 for further workshops.
A graduate of the Wimbledon School of Art and Exeter Art School, Wendy’s extensive skills and experience have spanned over twenty years within the creative industries. She has worked intensively as a sculptor for nearly ten years. She divides her time between sculpture commissions, teaching commitments, group exhibitions and family. The past four years have witnessed Wendy commit more time to private and public art sculpture commissions that have included the Captains’ Walk 2006-08 (Jubilee Park, Cootamundra) and Edmund Rice 2009 (Christian Brothers).
In late August, Wendy will accompany Into the Blue Creative Walks for their inaugural Sculpture in the Desert walk.
