Once a medical technologist daily using a microscope, the progression to studying nature with a camera and then a paintbrush seemed a natural one for Wendy Jennings after living in some of Australia’s diverse National Parks over 30 years.

"Realism and accuracy are the key to work, down to the tiny insect always present. I have developed an affinity with nature and love discussing it with clients or with visitors at exhibitions and workshops. My aim is to stimulate an interest in the conservation of the world’s wildlife and its habitats. I have had no formal art training but took it up while living in a remote park as a hedge against the loneliness. It did not take long before it became an obsession. There is much to be learnt from nature. We should not separate ourselves from it, or think we are greater than it, or we may miss something it has to teach us."

Teaching Style

I am happy to teach people of all ages and with varying ability. I have learnt my art by the try it and see method, so I teach what works for me, and in the easiest way possible. I allow people to paint the subjects they prefer, so everyone does something different. I will show them various ways of producing an art work so that they can choose a method which suits them.

My preference is for wildlife but also habitats are included so scenery, plants, rocks, insects etc are all looked at.

I am happy to travel anywhere to conduct workshops, from 1 to 5 days. I provide lessons on an hourly basis from my own studio in Victor Harbor. I also provide accommodation/ tuition packages at my B&B or nearby B&Bs.
