Paul McCarthy sold his first painting to the general public at age 15 and has been painting ever since. Today Paul works almost 100% plein air and his work is far from traditional. His understanding of colour and design are exceptional.

Paul’s paintings are vibrant and alive and his sense of colour is exquisite. Some describe his work as fauvist but Paul’s style is uniquely his own. Based on exceptional drawing skills, Paul can simplify forms and use line to hold his work together. He uses colour tonally and encourages the use of non traditional colour application to portray images. Add to this an understanding of how the brain functions in relation to visual images, and Paul develops compositions that result in his exciting, luminous paintings.

Paul is a sought-after tutor with decades of experience and a secret ambition to be a stand up comic.

His workshops are alive with laughter and the camaraderie that develops from this ensures that everyone has a good time while trying to master all the tips that Paul continually gives.
